I'm confused. The book started off all interesting and entertaining, then got progressively silly. I don't understand what the angst was about. They deliberately made themselves unhappy for no good reason. The angst seesawed between each other. First was her and she withheld on sex. Then was him retreating into himself after he felt the baby's movements. I don't get it. The plot was not that complex.Tags : Chosen As The Frenchman's Bride [Abby Green] on Amazon.com. *FREE* shipping on qualifying offers. BACK COVER He needs an heir; she's carrying his baby...
Tall, bronzed Frenchman Xavier Salgado-Lezille isn't a man a girl can say no to easily. Jane tries to play it cool, but she's inexperiences...and a virgin. Falling in love isn't part of the plan...neither is discovering she's pregnant once the affair is over.
Xavier knows she's carrying his child, and he wants an heir. Jane is chosen as his bride!
OK, where to start, well at the least the book started out very good. And the very ending was good. However, in between that is was just bad! Jane gives Xavier the cold shoulder through out most of the book, and its just tiring reading it. And of course she thinks he don't love her so readers get the joy of reading about 100 pages of back-and-forth bickering. I don't know if this is Abby Green's first book, but I hope none of the other ones are like this.
*************PREMISE**************
A British woman (Jane) meets a French billionaire (Xavier) while on vacation and they have an affair. On the last day of her vacation, Xavier's assistant lets Jane know that she's just one of many women Xavier has on tap. By this time, Jane is already in love with Xavier and flees back to England, humiliated, and intends never to see Xavier again. Except she finds out that she's pregnant.
Due to a codicil in Xavier's late father's will, Xavier's children cannot inherit if they are born out of wedlock, so Xavier and Jane marry for the sake of the child.
*************ISSUES****************
I have three issues with the book.
1. Xavier's parents had a horrible marriage and after his mother's death, his father hated the thought of marriage so much he refused to remarry, yet he included a codicil to force his son to marry. I get that their lineage was important, but it just seems weird a father who hates marriage writing a codicil like that.
2. As another reviewer wrote, the section of the book where Jane is forcing herself to give Xavier the cold shoulder started getting on my nerves after a while. I know we needed it develop tension between the characters, but it really did start to get on my nerves when it went on for page after page after page.
3. This woman is pregnant, her husband is a billionaire and there is never a mention of her seeing a doctor, getting a sonogram or anything. Not even prenatal vitamins. Come on. Shouldn't she have had at least a check up. The first time he sees her in 4 months, she faints in front of him, she tells him she'd pregnant, and he doesn't ask if she's ok, if she needs a OB/GYN or something? Never once asks if the baby is healthy? And this is a man who is in desperate need of an heir? Wouldn't he want to make sure that everything is in tip top shape? I don't know, but that scenario bothered me.
*****************MY TAKE****************
Other than those issues, I liked this book. The woman was independent, and wasn't a doormat, and the man was a definite alpha male without coming across as being a jackass or by being verbally abusive as they are in so many of these Harlequin Presents books. They are both pretty likeable, even though they could be irritating at times.
If you are looking for a lot of tension and conflict, this is not the book for you. This is a book about a couple forced together and who try to work out their respective situations to the best of their abilities while both trying to save face in a difficult situation.
A nice read I wholeheartedly recommend. Very sweet.
Abby Greene is one of many authors who write for Harlequin Presents! Her writing is captivating, heartfelt and point blank you won't be disappointed if you just randomly pick one of her books to read. To let all of you know, I have read at least 300 + Harlequin Presents books in the last 18 months. I am hooked!!
There was too much conflict in this book. To start off so lovingly and then to have most of the book on conflict was n it to my liking.
I liked this book and definitely recommend it. The main characters have great chemistry and good dialogue. The sex scenes really sizzle. Plus the storyline is believable. It's a keeper for me.
I would give it 5 stars simply because Abby Green wrote it lol. Seriously tho I purchased this because Abby Green has a fantastic way of weaving a magical story and then managing to write another story about a character from the previous book. Most of Abby Green's stories are all loosely linked and when I purchased this I was on a mission to read the older stories to plug the gap while waiting for new releases.
Loved it!
When you are in the mood for an HP then this is as good as they get. Of course the H was alpha with issues and the h was innocent and probably not up to the challenge of handling him and his past. Anyway the story moves along nicely and although there is the period of celibacy, it built up the tension quite nicely between the 2 main characters. As I said if you are in the mood for this type of romance then this is well worth reading.
I'm confused. The book started off all interesting and entertaining, then got progressively silly. I don't understand what the angst was about. They deliberately made themselves unhappy for no good reason. The angst seesawed between each other. First was her and she withheld on sex.
