The continuation of the Neve and Egan series jumps in shortly after the ending of book one. Lexa and Ash are now working cases-- mostly lost dogs and things like that. But they're contacted by an old woman who, during the Nazi regime, lost a family heirloom.

The book deals with not only the case, but the conflict between Ash's involvement in the PI agency along with his job as a professor. That part confused me only because unless Ash had signed an exclusivity clause, I'm not sure he could be fired from his post for holding a second job. He didn't give the impression in the book he was missing any necessary work, and it felt like something the author used only to have the character leaving his teaching position.

The writing was only a little less consistent than the first, I enjoyed the adventure, and the conclusion. I, like I'm sure many others, wondered about the relationship between Ash and Lexa. The author's made it clear she intends for them to have a father/daughter relationship. I'm all for platonic friendships between men and women, but the characters rely very heavily on sexual innuendos as jokes--much like the first book-- and whether it's intentional or not, the author has created a tension between the characters which makes the idea of father/daughter a little on the weird side. Especially (mostly in the first book) Ash's constant joking about them dating. It came across as more foreshadowing than actual banter. It also feels like Matthew was introduced only to show that Lexa is interested in someone besides Ash.

The book concludes with Ash rescuing Lexa, a twist from the first book where Ash was the one kidnapped. It proved that while he has some limitations, he can still be a hero. And it's due to his very quick, clever brain. I appreciate that about him as a character. Lexa still makes snap-judgments showing her character has a lot to learn, but nothing that put me off as a reader.

I will definitely be continuing on with this series.

Ruby Heart The Neve Egan cases Volume 2 Cristelle Comby 9781492813439 Books Reviews

Reading ir right now, and I'm looking forward to each page. Makes me want to go to England and visit all the places and street and parks the author so vivitly describes. Can't wait too see what other parts of Europe the missing neckless will take me to.
I'd really like to have given this book three and a half stars. The plot is good, but not intricate. It is without subplots. It is almost juvenile in its dialogue. And the author is still double (or at least 1 1/2 spacing) the text, possibly to stretch the book out to a normal length 278 pages for this one, though if spaced like other books, it would probably run closer to 150-175. I don't know why I bought the second book in the series, except the concept of a young woman and a blind history professor as partners in a detective agency is appealing. Also, I really like the relationship between the two, so I keep reading and hope the writing will mature.
Enjoyed this the second book in the series. The story was well paced and interesting, but believe I was more involved with the first . Looking forward to the third.
Wow! Wow! Wow! This is most certainly one of my new favorite mystery writers! Hope this series goes on forever!
Got this as a free download and found it very readable. More cozy than otherwise, with an interesting link back to WWII Nazi confiscation of Jewish artwork/jewelery. Characters quite well developed, plot fairly predictable but entire storyline was entertaining.
An excellent read. I thoroughly enjoyed the story. Can't wait to start the next one. I think the main characters will eventually realize they are already in love, regardless of the age difference.
This is a good read...it is the 2nd Neve and Egan book that I have read. Would highly recommend. Interesting characters and a blind detective is definitely something you don't see every day!
